Christian Byrum (Virginia Beach, VA) has had a busy few months, gaining five offers and generating a lot of interest. Last weekend, the hard hitting safety took a short drive over to visit Old Dominion to meet with the coaching staff and tour the campus.
"Jamil Kamara, myself and Robbie Robertson (2016) walked into Coach Burden's office this morning when we got there. After talking with Coach Burden I went over to the defensive coordinator's office and he told me he loved watching my film but they want to see more pass coverage before they would offer me."
After talking with the coaching staff, the players were escorted to one of the football meeting rooms where they were able to watch highlights of last season and see all of the equipment that ODU wears. "We went up to a meeting room and watched a highlight film of last season and then we got to see all of the equipment that was laid out, the jerseys and gloves, all the apparel that they wear. After watching the film we went down the to weight room and we were weighed in and measured."
One of the highlights of the day came after the weigh in, when Byrum was able to take a few minutes and talk with Head Coach Bobby Wilder. "I talked with Coach Wilder, he is a really nice guys and I really like him, he is really cool."
Byrum left the visit with no offer in hand, but one could be on the horizon for the 6-1 192-pounder. "I don't know if it is necessary for me to come to camp to get an offer, my team [Tallwood], we do a team camp at ODU each year so the coaches will have a chance to see me there too. The coaches want to see me cover before they will offer me."
Old Dominion is recruiting Christian as a defensive back with the possibility of playing corner back or safety. Byrum was scheduled to visit Virginia Tech on April 6th, but his 7 on 7 team is participating in a tournament and he plans to reschedule the visit. At this time Byrum has no other college visits planned in the near future.
